Despite what many people might actually think, windows which are tinted can provide numerous benefits apart from those which are simply aesthetic. And it is not just classic cars which can see the benefits of window tinting, as more home and office owners are finding out when they see the many improvements to both themselves and to their bank accounts. Our beautiful planet can also see the environmentally-friendly benefits when we use window tinting. The list is seemingly endless, and it’s one which we should all be more aware of so that we can all make sure that we getting the most out of our window tinting.
So what exactly are these window tinting benefits? Read on to find out more about the 7 best things about window tinting.
1 – Preventing Overheating
Some models and types of sports cars and classic cars have a tendency for the interior to heat up easier than others, making the vehicle the last place you want to be, especially on long trips. With a good quality window tint applied it is possible for the vehicle to be kept cooler by approximately 60% in the midsummer heat, making those long trips a lot more pleasurable, or a day at a car show where the classic car is sitting on a golf course all day.
2 – Skin Protection
There is no doubt about it, window tinting, whether on vehicles or buildings, protects the skin from ultraviolet (UV) rays. It doesn’t matter if you are driving to and from work, taking the children to school or sitting in your office by the window all day; too much exposure to the strong afternoon sun is not good for your skin. It can cause, rashes and skin irritations as well and there is the increased risk of other diseases such as skin cancer. The same exposure to direct sunlight can also cause premature aging of the skin, creating wrinkles and fine lines long before they should be there. Having the windows tinted can help to eliminate all of these potential problems by making sure the skin is protected by effectively blocking UV rays by up to 99%.
3 – Accident Prevention
Vehicle accidents can very realistically be prevented when the windows of the vehicle are tinted. As all drivers know, driving with the glare of the sun in your eyes, or being blinded by the reflection of snow or rain water from the roads when it reflects against the metal or windshields of other vehicles, as well as the glare from oncoming headlights can all be the cause of accidents. At the very least, the same conditions can give the driver eye-strain or tension headaches, all of which can make driving conditions uncomfortable, and which in itself can cause problems when driving.
4 – Prevention of Personal Injury
When the windows of a vehicle are tinted, injuries to the driver, passengers and pedestrians can be avoided. This is because the tinting film holds glass together when it is broken or shattered, stopping the shards of glass from flying out in all directions.
5 – Improving Privacy
A vehicle or a home can be made more private if the windows are tinted, which is probably one of the most popular reasons why home and vehicle owners choose to have tint installed. This can be especially beneficial to car owners who leave their car unattended with the valuables such as briefcases on the backseat or the floorboards. Would-be thieves are unable to see what is inside the vehicle, and as such it tends to act as a deterrent to crime. In the home, women living alone or with young children often feel more secure when passersby are unable to see inside.
6 – Interior Protection
The soft furnishings inside a home or the delicate interior of a classic car can all be protected by having the windows tinted. Carpets, leather seating, dashboards and steering wheels can all be damaged by the heat of the sun as it dries out the leather causing cracks, fading and discoloration. The same can be said for wallpaper, drapes, carpeting and seating etc…, inside a home. Although window tinting costs money, in the long term it can actually save money too.
7- Saving our Planet
When we tint our windows we are taking an active part in saving our planet. This is because the tinting film helps to reduce the heat inside the home or car, which has a knock on effect of us not needing to put on our air-conditioning units. In the home this means a reduction in the amount of electricity we used, and in the vehicle it means a reduction in the amount of gasoline we use. And the same can be said when the weather is colder, as the window tinting can also keep the cold out and the warmth in, reducing the need to put the heater on. All of this helps to protect our environment as it protects the ozone layer.

The rear window of my Iso Grifo is tinted and with the size of this window it helps significantly with keeping the interior cool. Be aware some locations may have laws controlling window tinting, for example, in California, the front side windows cannot be tinted and the rear side windows and rear window can be tinted if there is a side view mirror on each side of the car. The windshield cannot be tinted.
