It is not often that a Bizzarrini comes up for auction at an affordable price and it is not often that a destroyed Bizzarrini comes up for auction either. This one is located in Bern, Switzerland and is being auctioned on line with a current bid of CHF32,507 ($35,720).
Even in this condition at the current bid this is a good investment, although it will likely take 2-3 years to get this car back in good shape.
I do not know what happened except there was obviously a fire. It is interesting to see how the alloy body was destroyed in certain places like behind the driver where the main gas tank is located. The tires did not melt and the wheels are in better condition than I would have expected.
It looks like the interior has been destroyed which will present a restoration challenge.
The differential looks good in the picture below as do the door sill gas tank covers in the picture above. Maybe the fire did not reach these side tanks or maybe the owner had the tanks removed as some owners do for safety reasons.
Who ever gets this car will have a lot or work ahead but it could be fun and the result will make it worthwhile. Seriously damaged Bizzarrini GT 5300s can be brought back to beautiful life.
I know every reader is thinking about what happened to the driver and any passenger. I hope there were no injuries but I do not know. Maybe one of you knows?
My thanks to Mike Clarke for being the first to send me pictures of this car.
It is believed that this car is chassis number IA3*0300.
