A Review Of “Documentary Carrera Panamericana (1950-54)”

by Mike –

I did not know much about the Carrera Panamericana because it was all before my time. I learned more from this film than all other knowledge that I had combined.

Chrysler Racecar

Chrysler Racecar

The Chrysler above raced in the Carrera Panamericana, although it is not in the film as far as I know. I saw this car at a car show last year. It is one of the types of cars that drove like a bat out of hell through Mexico to try and win this race.

I am very surprised at the video from races so long ago – they are very exciting. The interview with John Fitch, who actually drove in the race, is worth the price alone.

I love his quote about racing in the Carrera Panamericana and the Mille Miglia, “The driver is an optimist and the passenger is a pessimist.”

I only wish the film were longer, Stephen Mitchell, the writer, director and co-producer left me wanting more because it is such a fascinating subject.

Don’t forget to enter the contest to win a DVD of this film plus a poster. This contest ends at midnight California time on Saturday May 19, 2012.

But wait there’s more! Stephen Mitchell will sign the poster to be sent to the winner.

There will be only one winner so the rest of you will have to buy the DVD.

I bought it and I give it a big thumbs up!
