The Three Bizzarrini Spyders Were A Big Hit In The Poconos!

by Mike –

All three Bizzarrini Spyders were together for only the second time at the recent Le Belle Macchine d’Italia in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.

The Mount Airy Casino & Resort in Mount Pocono, PA was the perfect setting for the Le Belle Macchine d ‘Italia.

The three 5300 Spyder S.I. Bizzarrini’s were showcased on the 18th green of the golf course. Other exotic car classes included Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Pantera, Maserati and McLaren plus more. Many spectacular cars were on the field all striving to be Best in Class and Best in Show.

For me the highlight of the show was talking to people from all over the world. One gentleman and his wife came from Quebec, Canada just to see the three Bizzarrini Spyders in person. He purchased the three piece Bizzarrini Spyder Model set over one year ago almost to the day. He is a Lamborghini owner but was so inspired to see these rare Bizzarrini’s in person that he wanted to join the Iso & Bizzarrini Owner’s Club right then. We said “slow down you need to call our Treasurer to join”.

The Photographers Could Not Stay Away

Another gentleman and his wife said they met me 24 years ago at the Meadow Brook concours where I was showing the red 1968 Bizzarrini Spyder S.I. for the first time and won the “Best Sports Car” award. They heard that all three spyders were going to be together at Mount Pocono and they were compelled to come and were very happy that they did.

It was an honor for me, and my wife Allison, to receive the Best of Show award.  We were told later that one of the Ferrari judges was asked which car that he thought should win the Best of Show award and with out any hesitation he said, “it has to go to the Silver Bizzarrini 5300 Spyder S.I Prototype; when or where will you ever see one of these again?”

Le Belle Macchine d ‘Italia has seen three Bizzarrini cars win Best of Show over the past few years including this blue Spyder in 2007 and a P538 in 1996. Maybe the red Spyder will win next year?
