by Mike –

Both the Bizzarrini Manta And the Monteverdi Hai 450SS Prototype were up for auction last week at the Gooding auction in Pebble Beach.

The Monteverdi sold for $577,500 and the Manta was unsold at a high bid of $850,000.

I am surprised that the Monteverdi was sold at this low price and I am surprised that the Manta did not sell within the estimate range of $1 to $1.5 million.

They both would be great additions to any classic car collection or museum.

  1. I thought the Monterverdi was bought well. The Manta est. IMO was too high it should have been right where the high bid was at 850.

The Manta is a beautiful design and very important if you follow Giugiaro’s career, but the car is not made to do anything with but show, yes it drives, but it’s longest drive is going to to be back to the car trailer. The Hai on the other hand is one of two and the pinnacle of Monterverdi cars, this is a car you can drive and the buyer purchased a very high speed exotic car.

  2. Vasileios Papaidis says

I agree…If the TNT101 was hide in a secret garage for 40+ years and just now expose at the public, the number of the final bid easy was under 1mil.$ or too high….I now well this car and I talking personally with P.Monteverdi before die for this amazing car.My opinion about the loss of prestige of the car is the “vandalism” that he received from the “collectors” before one of them few years ago return it (with respect for this historic car) at the original (Geveva 70) interior & exterior contition…

  3. I was hoping the Manta would go to Italdesign Giugiaro’s museum if he has one or VW should use it to start one for Italdesign which VW now owns.

I like seeing both of these cars in their original design and color state. I also think the Hai was very well bought.

  4. Looking at the Manta next to the Hai you can see just how low the Hai is, and the fact that they were able to design such a nice looking car around that Big Block is amazing!
