The Tesla Model S On The Street

by Mike –

The Tesla Model S is not a classic car yet but I like the new electric technology.

Here are my photos of the first Tesla Model S that I have seen on the street. These photos were taken with my wife’s new iPhone 5.

The Tesla Model S is the 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year. This is a first for a car without an internal combustion engine.

However, winning awards is not the same as selling a lot of cars, becoming profitable and building a sustainable business.

Where I live, and Tesla is headquartered, is Silicon Valley; there are many start up companies that have won numerous awards and later crashed and burned.

I am happy to see Tesla management focusing on getting a great product to market and quit fooling around with silly lawsuits.

I hope they celebrate their award briefly and then get back to the business of building great products.

  1. By far the best looking electric car. Hopefully they aren’t using technology that will produce the brick syndrome, I guess the other question is range. Ae these 100% electric or do they have a backup engine?

  2. Not to be pessimistic, but I think thats a deal killer for many buyers, you can see it in the Toyota vs Volt sales. People just don’t want to have to worry about the recharge ALL the time. I would say It’s a third car with a gas back-up. IMO the VW TDI is the way to go, they can get up to 50 MPG, the entry cost is much lower and you never worry about the recharge.
