Car Of The Day – Classic Car For Sale – 1965 ASA 1000 GT

by Mike –

Here is my pick for the classic car for sale today that I would like to own. Please don’t call this a baby Ferrari. The engine has 1,032 cc displacement and is based on the Ferrari 250 GT engine, with a 4-speed transmission. It produces 97 hp.

The body style is by Bertone. The coupe was introduced at the Turin Auto Show in 1961 and the Spider was introduced in 1963.

I wrote about the ASA 1000 GT Spider here.

This is a great color combination and is not red, a big plus in my book. The pictures of this car look good but there is not much information in the eBay listing. I don’t think those Ferrari logos belong in the interior but could be easily removed.

The seller says the engine is “based on a Ferrari design” but it actually was designed by Ferrari.

It is difficult to judge if this is a good price because not many of these come up for sale and the price guides that I use do not list ASA! I think this is a huge oversight – any car designed by Ferrari should be in these classic car price guides which are: “Sports Car Market Pocket Price Guide” and the “Hagerty Price Guide”. I have the latest issue of both.

  1. Everything about these car is beautiful. I have heard they drive great on twisty roads. Bizzarrini tail lights

  2. I’d say significant factor in achieving the price is the overall condition. The engine bay looks sorted, but I’m not convinced by the body work. A very close inspection by an ASA specialist is a must. Otherwise, given the engine roots, Bertone design and documentation, the price is close to being justified. Just my $0.02…

Of the various ASA’s that I’ve see the only question I have is why does the horn bottom and gear shift knob have the Ferrari crest. The car came standard with the ASA CREST?

Otherwise at first glance it looks like a great example of an ASA!!
