Car Of The Day – Classic Car For Sale – 1969 Ferrari Dino 206 GT

by Mike –

Here is my pick for the classic car for sale today that I would like to own. The Dino 206 GT has a 2-liter engine. The engine capacity was increased to 2.4-liter in a subsequent model, the 246 GT.

This is such an elegant style, I prefer the coupe compared to the removable top feature on the 246 GTS – the coupe has much cleaner lines.

The seller says:

* Delivered new to Auto-Becker in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1969

* Exported to Canada in 1970

* Original car retains its original leather owner’s wallet with manuals

* Once owned by the film director David Cronenberg

* Rosso Corsa with its original black interior

* The engine having just undergone a complete rebuild and has done zero miles since

* The chassis, suspension and A-arms have also been completely rebuilt

* Only 152 examples made

This Ferrari Dino 206 GT is for sale at the Coys auction, Spring Classics on 12 March in London.

The estimate is £180,000 – £210,000 ($273,000 – $318,000) (209,000 – 243,000 Euros).

~~~
This seems like a high estimate, it is a rare car and I like the original interior but I am not sure that David Cronenberg as a previous owner will have any effect on the price. It would not influence me.
There were far fewer 206 GT versions made than the subsequent 246 GT and 246 GTS thus adding to the exclusivity compared to those later models, even though one would wish for the 2.4-liter engine rather than the 2-liter engine.
This is certainly a beautiful design and will always be a desirable collector car. I like the fact that there is not a Ferrari script logo on the back that were added by so many owners who wanted people to know they were driving a Ferrari. This is not necessary today.
Thanks to Julius for sending this to me.
  1. I hope that this car will one day will be in my garage:)
    Its true that later version with 2.4L were much more reliable than 2.0L.
    Hope new owner will enjoy the car and keep the originality as it is possible.
  2. Guys, always loved the Dino/Ferrari Dinos! This looks like an amazing example that is set to enjoy the recent run-up in the pricing of the 246 variants. My Porsche interest closely parallels the Dino in that my 1969 911E is 2.0 litres while the later 1972/3 also graduated to 2.4 litres. And while the day’s Dino is one of 152 examples, my E is one of 12 Soft Window Targas made in 1969. Finally, I love the coupe lines of the Dino but, and this should come as no surprise, the spyder version is supreme! I’ll be following this Coys auction in 2 weeks!
  3. Rare 911 you have jdevil!it really counts in Porsches enthusiasts.
    I have Dino 246 GTS 1973 US Version lovely car
    If you will have some pictures from Coys auction please share with it.Have a fun there 🙂
