If the owner was so meticulous that he kept detailed records of the gas usage he probably kept the car in exceptional working order too.

You are not likely to find an Alfa Romeo Spider like this one for sale for a very long time – if ever.

  1. The market for the Spiders is being buoyed by surge of Series 1 prices. The early Series 2 with steel bumpers have been creeping up in price and exceptional examples are well north of the $10k water market. Later Series 2 (or series 2a) with federalized bumpers are not as strong. However if this car is indeed the time capsule it is described to be its in the correct price range. Earlier this year a Series 2 with 54k miles in mint condition sold for about $22k IIRC.

Overall Alfa values have firmed up. The surprise are the Berlina sedans (series 105). The price for a nice clean one doubled in recent times. It’s hard to find a daily driver condition cars for under $6k.

    Good luck to this seller

  2. These cars are an iconic classic, as proven by the 27 years or so of continuous production of the model. During the production run, the body basically stayed the same, with gradual improvements such as fuel injection, bumper changes (as noted above), and some minor cosmetic changes to the outside. I have worshipped this car from a distance since I was 15 years old, and now I am 50, and I still worship it! Glenn in the Bronx, NY

    Hi Mike,

You ask if I like Alfas? Yes I do…they used to beat me up in all of the twisties when I was a teenager in the 60’s. I had to try very hard to keep up, first on my TR3 and then in my Datsun 1600. Only in the straights could I get right on their butt and maybe pass them. One time a friend traded cars with me and let me drive his Giuletta all the way up the mountain. It was then that I found out what it was to “dance on the highway with your car”, fantastic. I still get goose bumps as I write this and remember!!

As much as I think that your listed Alfa is a GREAT deal…I happen to have too much in the barbie right now…I did however forwarded your link to several of my friends with statements like “This is the best way to get into car collecting for very little $$, be secure in getting your $$ back and have a ball in the mean time”…”Buy this car and love every moment, and any time I would trade you any of my other classics, even my Ferrari for the weekend”. That is how much I like this Alfa you have on offer.

By the time you get this the car will probably be already sold!!!

  4. Wow what a time capsule looks like it was taken very good care of. These are excellent cars that are easy to maintain. FYI Dustin Hoffman drove a Duetto which is a bit different and my favorite of the Alfa spiders. I believe the real graduate car ended up being used as a race car in the 70’s.
