1972 Maserati Mexico For Sale

by Mike –

Introduced at the 1966 Paris motor show and designed by Virginio Vairo at Vignale, the Maserati Mexico is a beautiful GT that carries four people in elegance and style. The name, Mexico, was chosen because the prototype, was once owned by Mexican president Adolfo López Mateos.

The 4.7 liter version produces 290 bhp and allows for a 255 kph (159 mph) top speed. Elegance, style and speed – what more can we ask for?

I hope some car designer in your readership gives us a professional opinion. This car looks to me where the Iso Rivolta should have gone if there had been a Series II. Meanwhile in the interim, I’ll field my own opinion if nobody objects (and I really want to hear an expert critique the car) . From some views it is a brilliant and timeless design that hasn’t aged that much.
Ironically from your front 3/4, the glasshouse looks about 2″ too high but from the r3a4re 3/4 view it looks OK. “The side vents make me think Giugiaro designed it but who is the coachbuilder? The tops of the fenders above the headlights aren’t quite flat, but still they aren’t bad looking for quads (shameless pandering to the American trend) Too bad the taillights look like parts bin specials added to a body shape they don’t necessarily fit.

  2. I read where the roof was designed that high to accomdate a man wearing a hat.
