The Petersen Author Event Was Terrific

by Mike –

I spent several hours on Saturday at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles for the first Automotive Authors Book Signing. I signed copies of my book  European Style with American Muscle. I also met many other authors who were helpful to me. I have many of their books in my library. Thank you to all of the My Car Quest readers who attended – I appreciate the support.

There also was time to take in some of the great cars on display there. This blue beauty below is a Ferrari 250 GTO driven by Phil Hill and is the second GTO made.

It was a factory team car and finished first in the GTO class at the 12 Hours of Sebring and second overall to a Ferrari Testa Rossa. It also raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans where it was sixth overall and third in class.

Below is a 1959 Testa Rossa – the first Ferrari to have disk brakes. It won many races including Riverside with Phil Hill at the wheel.

Below is a 1953 Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia by Vignale. In 1954 Phil Hill drove this car to second place in the Carrera Panamericana. Carroll Shelby also raced this car.

Look at the size of that tail fin! Maybe you could guess that these cars are in the Phil Hill Exhibit.

These cars demonstrate that art and function do go together well. A beautiful car can also be the fastest on the track.

Later this week I will tell you about the private tour led by Leslie Kendall, the museum Curator. And tomorrow I will tell you about my Sunday with the classy Bruce Meyer, one of the greatest car guys anywhere, and a board member of the Petersen Automotive Museum.
