by Mike –
Ralph Lauren has just released some very special models of some of his special cars. One of them is Ferrari 250 GTO No. 3987 formerly owned by Stephen Mitchell, a regular reader of My Car Quest.
You can see and read about this interesting car, the real one, on my previous post, Unexpected Memories – Ferrari 250 GTO, and you will see pictures of when Stephen owned and drove this Ferrari and a picture from a museum in Paris where the GTO spent a few months in 2011.
There is quite a contrast between the car in the old days and now.
The GTO model is 1:8 scale with dimensions of 5″ H x 21″ L x 8″ D. Case: 9″ H x 26″ L x 13″ D. More details about the models are at the Ralph Lauren site. I would love to have one of these models but I would have to sell a real car to buy one.
Stephen Mitchell sometimes writes about his cars on his blog.

Notice the GTO is parked on dead grass, not a golf course, in the parking lot of Riverside Raceway. Also, to the left is a Ferrari 275 GTB, to the right is a Shelby Cobra and forward to the right is a De Tomaso Mangusta. Those were the days eh?
The last photo was supplied to me by Stephen Mitchell who received it from Larry Crane.

Perhaps I should commission a model representing 3987 as it looked when I owned it; as it appears here in the photo taken by Larry Crane so long ago.
Stephen,
This is a fantastic idea! Then they could be sold as a set, “before” and “after”. Or they could be called “driven” and “museum”.
