In the 1950s and 1960s there were many garage tinkerers in America making their own car, usually a racecar.
Most of these tinkerers made just one car for themselves but others had a vision to build not just a great racecar for themselves but to build kit cars for anyone else who wanted to race.
Bill Devin (1915 – 2000) was one of those who wanted to build many cars. He founded Devin Cars and had some success in racing and in selling fiberglass kit cars.
A Devin powered by a 2-cylinder Panhard engine that was modified with Manx Norton motorcycle cylinder heads won the 1956 SCCA H-Modified National Championship.
This may have been the first automotive use of belt-driven overhead camshafts.
The Devin cars pictured here were at The Quail, A Motor Sport Gathering in 2009 where The Cars of Bill Devin was a class.
Devin cars have a cult like following and it is easy to see why one would love these cars.
