The Winningest Shelby Cobra Daytona Will Be At Amelia Island This Year

by Mike –

There were only six Shelby Cobra Daytonas made and all were racecars with the sole purpose of defeating Ferrari and winning the world GT championship.

Shelby achieved this goal in 1965 winning the FIA GT world championship. The Cobra Daytona pictured above was driven by Bob Bondurant and Dan Gurney to a Le Mans class win in 1964.

This is the Cobra Daytona that will be at Amelia Island on March 9-11, 2012. This car won more races than any of the other six Cobra Daytonas.

I have written before about another of the Shelby Cobra Daytona racecars.

A print of the art work above and an original Shelby American factory poster, below, hang on the wall in my office.
