Interesting Classic Car Photos

by Mike –

Here are some cool photos that I found today – they are not related just interesting.

In 1950 Briggs Cunningham entered two Cadillacs in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one a stock-appearing Cadillac Coupe de Ville, the other a special-bodied sports car called “Le Monstre” by the French.

The picture above, taken at this years Le Mans Classic, shows why it received this name. The  two Cunningham Cadillacs finished 10th and 11th overall. This confirms my long held belief that successful race cars are also beautiful.

I suspect Le Mans fans have not forgotten this car or Briggs Cunningham.

The Apollo GT below is for sale at the Russo & Steel auction in Monterey in August. It is rare to see an Apollo GT and even more rare to see one at auction. I will have to see this one in person.

  1. Le Monstre is certainly one of the most memorable race cars to have run at Le Mans!

  2. Memorable indeed. It has burned itself into my retina so far.
Looks like a hot rod job on an original Iron clad tank. “Give her e a top chop Stan. I want her under 66 inches”.
But another burning question; what is the race number representing? 9? 2? OZ?
Its brilliant that these survive and are cherished for all the grandeur and history they represent.

  3. A stylized ‘2″… 🙂

  4. I once had a very interesting and fun little car nietety had to lay it down for scrap VW 411 LE cool, unfortunately it was my car as I’m done I’m done with the lack of cash
