In the 1950s American car styling took a turn to the ‘unusual’ with the movement to fins. Fins were big in the 1950s until the early 1960s. Even Ferrari got into the act.
Virgil Exner with Studebaker and Chrysler led the way with fins on American cars. At the time we loved them but could they ever come back?
Most Americans either owned one of these big fin cars or our parents owned one. Am I right?
Let us know what you think in the comments and identify any of these cars if you can.
Amazing timing. The latest issue of Bring a Trailer has a photo of the double-finned 1958 Packard Coupe: http://bringatrailer.com/2012/10/24/double-finned-finale-1958-packard-hardtop-coupe/ Pretty amazing design direction. Thankfully nobody decided to copy it that I know of.
I saw that, I wish that I would have had a photo of those fins for this post.
