The Primary Colors Of Classic Cars

by Mike –

I have a weakness for car colors especially green, orange and silver. But really I like them all, at least on the right car.

Blue

This is the Lance Reventlow Scarab race car chassis number 1. It is a beautiful blue and was originally pin striped by Von Dutch.

Yellow

Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Coupe Speciale

It is unusual to see an exotic Italian car in yellow but it suits this Alfa Romeo just perfectly.

Silver and Orange

Bizzarrini GT 5300 and Lamborghini Miura

The air dam is what caught my attention on this Miura. It is similar to the custom air dam made for my Bizzarrini GT 5300 Strada. This air dam is not on the Bizzarrini now but hangs on the wall in my office.

I love both silver and orange.

Red

I think that red always looks good on an Audi R8, among other things. The red chairs for example.

Green

This artistic photo composition is by Jonathan Root. Naturally his beautiful green Mangusta is featured.

Black and White

Finally black and white – a Ford GT40 race car looks good in any color, or no color at all.

Mike, our love and fascination with auto paint colors reminds me of a super laid back early ’70s stoner college dorm neighbor, who when asked about his favorite color, replied, ” My favorite color used to be blue, man, but since I’ve been getting high, I now appreciate all the colors…can’t really choose one anymore, man!” And of course we roared with laughter…but there was some truth in his smokey wisdom.

    • Sounds like a Cheech and Chong discussion.

Also, I forgot Candy Apple red. I remember when I first saw Candle Apple red. I was about 12 years old on the streets of Los Angeles.

Love Candy Apple Red. Being Italian (vintage and new) car guys, building a hot-rod in the near future is unlikely…but if we ever did, Candy Apple Red and Candy Apple Purple would be top contenders for sure.
