Can you believe that a race car splits in half right behind the drivers seat and the driver gets out and walks away!
That is what happened to Mike Gammino while he was driving the Iso Grifo/Bizzarrini No. 9 at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1965.
Fortunately he had not buckled his seat belt, this likely saved his life because one end of the seat belt was attached to the rear half of the car and the other to the front half.
The other Iso Grifo/Bizzarrini race car was also totaled as described by C. Rino Argento , who was part of the Iso/Bizzarrini team at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1965.
After this terrible week for the Iso/Bizzarrini team these two race cars were taken back to the garage of the famous Max Balchowsky in Hollywood, California where he assembled them into one car. This car has been missing since 1965 and is still missing today.
What a barn find this would make! If you know where this car may be please send me an email at mike@mycarquest.com.

I’m guessing that if and when i go racing and that;
If I forget to put my belts on,
AND my judgement was bad enough to total the car
AND it is split in half
AND,…. that i get to walk away
I probably decide that the time to be watching racing on the tellie has arrived.
Lucky, LUCKY bastard.
