From Wikipedia,

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain (now officially known as the United Kingdom). Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the National Day of the United States.

Despite the necessity of a revolutionary war and the British burning down the White House in 1812 – all is forgiven. After all the USA and the UK do share the roots of a common language.

    . Make time to contemplate the meaning and the cost of America’s freedom.

    • Not sure how wide ranging your comment intention is Scot, but yes, it is certainly approriate for people (the world over) to contemplate the meaning and costs for America’s ‘freedom’.
      As the states are not completely independent, are the populace thereof as free as the document intended.

      In the future, what may America’s ‘freedom’ cost? Or alternatively, what will be the price?

      Not really wanting to begin a political debate, but as it would seem appropriate for there to be a vehicular reference or analogy on the site;
      the price of purchasing our classics may have a very different (or inverse) relationship to the cost of owning it.
