Two Lamborghini Miuras For Auction

Coys has two completely different Lamborghini Miuras for sale at their December 4 auction in London.

The first one was owned by Aristotle Onassis and has some unique modifications that only a very rich person would want or would agree to pay for anyway.

Lamborghini Miura

1969 Lamborghini Miura

Coys says: “This car was given as a gift from Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis to his friend and favorite singer of the time, Stamatis Kokotas in the early 1970s.”

The engine is out of the car and it has been in storage for a few decades.

The estimate is £320,000 – £370,000 ($513,000 – $593,000). It is on the Coys site here.

The second Miura offered by Coys at the same auction is quite different.

1967 Miura SV

1967 Miura SV

This is a 1967 Miura P400 that was converted by the Lamborghini factory to SV specifications in 1974. It was restored in 2008.

The estimate is £370,000 – £420,000 ($593,000 – $673,300). This Miura is listed on the Coys site here.

I have a few questions for you to think about concerning the Miuras (assuming the descriptions are correct):

1) Which Miura would you prefer, assuming the prices are the same or close?

2) Does it increase the value because Aristotle Onassis owned the first Miura?

3) Is there any value in the “barn find” nature of the first Miura?

4) What doe the SV factory conversion do to the value of the second Miura – is it as valuable as an original SV?

Let us know what you think on any of these questions or any other thoughts in the comments.

My thanks to Ádám Bölcs for sending me the first Miura link and to Mike Clarke for publishing the Varedo Group.

  1. The second Miura, the “SV” is over the top restored. I doubt whether it ever left the factory in that color scheme (particularly the interior; but may be it did). Not my cup of tea in this color and this type of (Americanized) restoration.
