In 1962 Iso Rivolta made their first Grand Touring (GT) car – and what a car it was, and still is – the Iso Rivolta GT. With chassis design by Giotto Bizzarrini and styling by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Bertone, Iso made a comfortable four seater that handled like a sports car. It is powered by a Chevrolet Corvette 327 cid engine and has disk brakes on all four wheels with the rear being in-board, like a race car.
The motoring press loved this car and what’s not to love? Italian styling and American power – a great combination. There were 799 Iso Rivolta GTs produced between 1963 and 1970.

I was looking for a Rivolta GT for about 10 years. I saw an advertisement in Hemmings in July 2005. Owned by Dr Dan Greer, Cheyenne, WY. Liked what I heard, so purchased an airline ticket to see it. He called night before departure to state his son-in-law wanted the car and he was giving it to him. At 85 years old, he was dissolving his car collection and wanted to keep what he could in the family.
A Vintage Racing buddy, who races an Iso Rivolta, said he heard about a car available in San Diego (this was January 2011). I called, it was the son-in-law who was given the car. Purchased it and brought it home.
Car was originally purchased in Switzerland by businessman who gave it to his daughter in Venice. She came to Boston with the car and drove it to New Mexico where she sold it to a gent who couldn’t afford it. He gave it to Dr. Greer to settle a debt.
Import certificate was on the windshield until I had it re-tinted when it was out of the car.
Interior is original. Options on car from factory were: Wooden Wheel/8qt. aluminum oil pan (which I understand is very rare)/Fog lights /Quick Steering/Wire Wheels. I have a copy of the original build sheet.
Engine is original. Do not think it has ever been out of the car. Does not smoke, runs well. Starts instantly.
Euro car so all gauges and switches are in Italian. Speedometer is in Kilometers. Currently reads 25K, probably been around once. But I really do not know.
Son-in-law work (about $4,500 2008-2009)
New Carburetor
Boiled out gas tank and Radiator
New drive shaft u-joints
New Master Cylinder and Booster
Transmission rebuiltMy work (About $20,000+)
Removed all undercoating/lightly recoated
Full glass out paint (new rubber front and rear windshield)
Porsche GT Silver Metallic
New Front and Rear Light Lenses
All Stainless (Bumpers/Trim Pieces) redone
All Borrani Wire wheels rebuilt
New Tires
Optima Battery
New Fuel Pump and Electronic ignition
The outside rear view mirror was some funky original Italian swoopy thing. I used the Talbot off my race car after the car was painted. To Go with Car ($1,000+)
New Front Suspension Bushings
New Front/Rear Springs
New Brake and clutch pedal padsNeeds:
Front suspension is drivable, and does fine, but I would put all new bushings in. Ones in there are original. Change springs to the new ones included with the car. Oil Pressure gauge and Clock are inoperable. Never checked why. There is a remote oil pressure gauge under the dash/unobtrusive/Installed by some previous owner. Radio antenna/New one installed/Never hooked up/ I believe the radio to be original.
I would replace u-joints in half shafts for safety. No noise or play, but had a friend in a vintage car break one and it wound up as a $3,000 repair from beating the underside.
Depending on your motivation for originally, I was planning to redo the interior. Current is acceptable. I would redo armrests in door, at least. I would also redo the wood on the dash. Again, acceptable as it is.
Rust:
Patched under the passenger door (about 2” x 12”) in the box area.Right front suspension had a small hole, I dug around for more (there was none) and was satisfied to have a professional weld on a 12” patch to ensure safety. Probably overkill.
Accident:
As best I can tell, left front at sometime in its life, no idea when.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a high quality Iso Rivolta GT that is priced right and ready to drive and show.

~ An incredibly reasonable offering at $59,900. Gorgeous, this patina-good!!!
Looks very nice, with great potential. It’s one way to get a 2-piece air con vent, Bruce!
This price seems like a truly remarkably’ reasonable amount for this amazingly original and rare GT. Glenn in the Bronx, NY.
Again, in the midst of a particularly brisk Italian car market, I am surprised to see a very, very reasonably priced original GT with highly desirable optional equipment.
Wow! I can’t believe Lon is selling his car. He’s put a ton of work into this car. Those wheels are freshly rebuilt. Engine compartment looks really clean. Great price!
Very nice car that looks ready for the road, engine is even painted the correct color. A steal of a price for the condition.
This is a real good buy, people! Lon ordered original parts from me to freshen up this GT and I can tell he did not cut any corners. If someone wants a great looking driver without getting neurotic to park it somewhere unattended this is the one. And no, nobody paid me to say this 😎 Great looker and options, drive and enjoy – I’m sure this one is not for sale very long.
Did this sell?
Yes.
Is this ISO still available
No, it sold many years ago and went to Germany.
