This unusual Aston Martin Shooting Brake was sold at the RM Southeby’s auction in Monterey a few weeks ago. I am fascinated by the shooting brake style which looks great on the Aston Martin DB6 and I suspect the DB5 as well.
It takes me back to my childhood when our family drove a 1964 Mercury Colony Park Shooting Brake. Mercury called it a station wagon like all US car companies did; a name not quite as intriguing or mysterious as the British Shooting Brake, which I prefer.
I wonder what would one carry in a shooting brake? I suspect the hunting dogs and the shotguns on the way to a bird hunt. We did not hunt and our dogs were only interested in going to the lake or the river to swim. They were wet on the way home and were relegated to the very back of the shooting brake. They didn’t mind.

The ultimate family automobile for Jackson Hole or St. Tropez
This Aston Martin Shooting Brake sold for much more than a Mercury Colony Park would if one could be found. I have not seen a Mercury Colony Park in decades and certainly you won’t see one in Jackson Hole or St. Tropez hauling around the ski equipment of the rich and famous. But an Aston Martin DB6 Shooting Brake? – Perfect!
