When I was a kid the only Ghia car I had seen was a Karmann Ghia Volkswagen and I was not overly impressed.
But as I have matured I have been exposed to Ghia designs like the Dual Ghia and the Chrysler Ghia styles. This one-off Alfa Romeo Ghia from 1954 is an exceptionally beautiful car.
In 1954, Al Williams, a San Francisco restaurant owner, approached Ghia with the idea to build a custom Alfa Romeo. Williams also wanted a special rear seat constructed for his Great Dane (a really big dog).
After Williams got his custom Alfa Romeo he showed it at the 1955 Los Angeles Auto Show.
This is one of those custom coach-built one-of-a-kind cars that is difficult to determine valuation. But it sure is beautiful – also in one of my favorite color combinations.
I am much more impressed with Ghia now than when I was a kid. The Karmann Ghia Volkswagen has even started to grow on me too.
