Today is the Fourth of July – Independence Day for the USA – on this day in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed (244 years ago!).
Even in these days of the coronavirus celebrations will be held from sea to shining sea – although muted with social distancing and smaller crowds if any, and maybe no fireworks or barbecues.
We will celebrate the USA in our own private way this year. Once we are through these troubles we will emerge back into the public next year.
I hope all of you are staying safe.
Words of Wisdom From Some of the Founding Fathers
Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech. — Benjamin Franklin, 1722
There is nothing so fretting and vexatious, nothing so justly terrible to tyrants, and their tools and abettors, as a free press. — Samuel Adams, 1768
The freedom of speech may be taken away — and, dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep, to the slaughter. — George Washington, to officers of the Army, 1783
The Declaration of Independence triggered events that changed the world. This one page document demonstrates the power of words.
Have a great 4th of July Mike!
Wishing you and yours a very safe 4th Mike…
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable 4th Mike!

If you can quote a TV character I can quote Bill Pullman from a movie where the US Pres leads mankind in a fight against an external threat (shades of the pandemic…)
Independence Day Bill Pullman Speech Transcript: Great Movie Transcripts
President Whitmore: (00:00)
Good morning. Good morning. In less than an hour aircrafts from here will join others from around the world and you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind.
President Whitmore: (00:22)
Mankind, that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today is the 4th of July and you will once again be fighting for our freedom not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution but from annihilation.
President Whitmore: (00:56)
We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist, and should we win today the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American President holiday but is the day when the world declared in one voice,
Whitmore: (01:14)
“We will not go quietly into the night. We will not vanish without a fight. We’re going to live on. We’re going to survive. Today we celebrate our Independence Day!”
