Lexus has long been synonymous with luxury, and they have redesigned their flagship LX line to take luxury from city to off-road. Lexus’s LX model arrived on the scene in 1995 and quickly became an iconic luxury SUV.
Some of the classic features the LX line is known for, like the body-on-frame design, will remain a critical point in the model’s design. However, the redesign includes improved communication options and real-time visibility for the road.
As for style, the pleasing exterior has been carefully tailored for a more streamlined aesthetic. The interior allows for a variety of design combinations to match color or wood preferences.
The Lexus LX line, in some ways, replaces the Toyota Land Cruiser models, which, starting in 2022, will no longer be released in the United States. The Land Cruiser was really a luxury SUV, and it makes sense that type of luxury SUV option will now rest with the LX 600 under the Lexus luxury brand nameplate.
Multi-Terrain and Off-Road Updates
Like any good luxury SUV , this one has enough power despite its size. The standard for the Lexus LX is the new 409-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a 2-speed transfer case with a permanent 4-wheel drive. Lexus has added the advanced Multi-Terrain Select system associated with Toyota 4Runners and a height-adjustable hydraulically controlled suspension system with electric power steering.
The rear shock absorbers are mounted and placed in such a way to match the angle of axle movement. This design in the LX means improved shock absorption and vehicle stability.
Higher wheelbases show off more sidewall and help the LX rise above trail brush. The updated use of aluminum content in the body helps reduce the overall weight of the vehicle. Powerful push and a competent off-roading set-up allow the LX to be your luxurious city transport and luxury camping vehicle.
Technologically Enhanced for Comfort and Control
Technology is integrating into our lives, and our vehicles are no different. Lexus utilizes the latest tech for both safety and luxury in the reimagined LX.
Electric Power Steering and Electronically Controlled Brake systems are new standards in the LX line, giving better control and handling. The F Sport model comes with a Torsen limited-slip differential and adjusted tuning for dampers.
The car’s system automatically adjusts vehicle height based on the Drive Mode or Multi-Terrain Select. The system changes with the vehicle’s actions, from speed to turns.
Cameras cover many angles to assist the LX driver in everything from backing up to major accident prevention. Displays have been upgraded to a dual-display touchscreen interface, cleaning up the interior’s visual with fewer buttons and knobs while maximizing the user experience.
Seating Arrangements for Any Style
The Lexus LX is available as your standard two-row to seat five, or it can seat up to seven with a third row that folds flat into the floor. Previous three-row models had folded seats, but they took up cargo space. The redesigned LX option is much more efficient, allowing users to add seating without sacrificing all of their cargo space.
A new seating arrangement takes the LX even further upscale. The Ultra Luxury version of the LX can be outfitted with a four-seat setup with second-row seats. These recline and have a footrest for enhanced comfort and legroom. The center console can feature a cold container add-on, and high-quality visual display options can improve the passenger experience.
Pricing and Trim Levels
The new Lexus LX 600 will be available beginning 2022 and come in Standard, Premium, Luxury, F Sport, and Ultra Luxury price levels. Pricing for the models has yet to be released. Still, considering its luxury design and increased performance, these models will surely follow a similar pricing structure as the previous LX models.
No list of accessories and features can overcome the decision to have a huge “maw” of a grille. The first picture I saw made me think a military vehicle. Or some SUV designed in Red China for some high official.Fortunately a grille can be re-done…
