The Sunday Funny Pages – No. 5 – The Yellow Aston Martin

by Mike Gulett –

This comic that I wrote more than 10 years ago reminded me of something that really happened yesterday. I went to lunch in Pebble Beach with my friend Tom and I would have normally driven our yellow Aston Martin Vanquish – but it rained the night before and the roads were wet and there was the continued possibility of more rain – so the yellow Aston Martin was not taken out. But we did have a great time.

When I wrote this comic I did not yet own a yellow Aston Martin.

Hmmm…sometimes comics do imitate real life.

    It’s very easy to understand.
When you’re the one that cleans the car, driving in the rain isn’t fun. It’s those magic days when the sun is shining, it’s warm enough to open the windows, not too warm to overheat, not too warm to require air conditioning that isn’t up to speed.
    Those are the magic days.
It’s also nice to have a place to stop, for a coffee, or a break. Especially if it has a window and you can see the car while you’re sitting there. It’s not that you’re worried that somebody is going to do something to it, it’s just nice to know that it’s still there. Having a special car is one of the greatest human joys as the freedom that it provides you is amazing.
And the girl in the shorts? It’s also very nice to take someone for a ride, it doesn’t have to be a wife or a girlfriend, maybe someone that never had a chance to drive in a car like that, and we’ll speak of it the rest of their life. It’s nice to share something. You will never regret it.
