Sam Posey the race car driver, writer, artists, TV announcer and architect will receive the fifth annual Spirit of Competition Award on December 5th, 2012 at the Simeone Automotive Museum.

Past recipients of the award include Mario Andretti, Janet Guthrie, John Fitch and Craig Breedlove.
Sam Posey raced a Bizzarrini GT 5300 at The 24 Hours of Le Mans – this car below, Bizzarrini chassis No. 0106. Some of the paint chips and scratches may be his.

Sam Posey had a far ranging racing career; he drove in Trans Am, NASCAR, Formula 1, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring, USAC Championship Car series, Indy 500 and Can Am.
He has been a TV announcer and today he is the opening voice of the Formula 1 races for Speed Channel. He has also written books.
This is a well deserved award – congratulations to Sam Posey.

Sam was/is a great driver…and his voice has this wonderfully unique and natural quality that is absolutely perfect for announcing the Formula One lead-in intros and collages. Sure hope he can stay on through the upcoming network changes, because we can’t think of anyone better suited for the job. Congrats Sam…please keep talking to us!
I agree with you about Sam Posey’s voice – it has a real quality that lets you know that he has been there and done that.
