As a follow up to Cool Classic Cars For Auction By Gooding In Amelia Island, this is my take on affordable classic cars coming up for auction by RM Sotheby’s in Amelia Island. There may be others but these are the few that caught my eye.
For some unknown reason RM Sotheby’s has not published the estimate range so I am flying a little blind here and guessing that the cars selected here will be “affordable”.
1971 Intermeccanica Italia Spyder
Without Reserve
European style with American muscle at its finest and a timeless style by the famous Bob Cumberford.
Powered by Ford and built in Italy the Intermeccanica Italia Spyder is becoming more recognized as an overlooked classic.
Intermeccanica is a well respected small car builder who later relocated to Canada and is still in business making Porsche replicas. They are one of the few small car builders from the 1960s that are still in business.
RM Sotheby’s writes,
Est. 300 hp, 351 cu. in. Ford Windsor V-8 engine, four-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, rear trailing-arm suspension with coil springs and a Panhard rod, and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 94.5 in.

1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Fixed Head Coupe
Without Reserve
I selected this Fixed Head Coupe E-Type over the E-Type Roadsters because coupes are usually less expensive that the roadsters. But they come with the same great performance and fun. Plus they are better in the rain.
RM Sotheby’s writes,
265 bhp, 4,235 cc DOHC inline six-cylinder engine with triple HD8 SU carburetors, four-speed manual transmission with full synchromesh, independent front suspension with transverse wishbones, torsion bars, telescopic shocks, and an anti-roll bar, independent rear suspension with lower transverse tubular links and twin coil springs, and four-wheel Dunlop twin-circuit hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 96 in.

1988 Ferrari 328 GTS
Without Reserve
If you must have a Ferrari this model may be affordable although they have increased in value in the last couple of years. This one looks to be a great example.

270 bhp, 3,185 cc DOHC transverse-mounted V-8 engine, five-speed manual transaxle, independent front and rear suspension with unequal-length A-arms, coil springs, stabilizer bar, and telescopic dampers, and front and rear ventilated disc brakes. Wheelbase: 92.5 in.

That is all I could find that I like and that I think will be “affordable”.
