I attended a Cruise Night that was very diversified to say the least. In Central Pennsylvania you get everything from John Deere Tractors, to Hemi Road Runners, or Blown ’39 Willys, and oh yeah maybe a couple of Sports Cars. This event was no exception.
I will start out with The Dukes of Hazard Dodge Charger. Back in the day my son would get so excited when the show came on TV, and Daisy Duke didn’t seem to hurt my eyes either.
Muscle Cars are of course very popular here. There were a couple of very exceptional examples. One of my best friends had a ’69 427 Biscayne, so that car really perked my interest. You will see in the photos, it was pretty original paint and interior.
How about a Chevy Malibu SS 454 sold new at the famous Baldwin Chevrolet in New York. They Sold the famed Baldwin Motion 427 Camaros! I would still love to own one.
How about some Street Rods? I have always loved ’39 Willys, especially if they are Blown.
Would you believe, among all of these Muscle Cars I came across an Intermecannica Torino!
This particular week was full of Trucks, but one really stuck out as special. It was a Military 5 Ton 4WD with underwater capabilities. I road in lots of Deuce and a Halfs and 5 Tons in the Army, but the fellow who owned this truck really knew his stuff! I really don’t remember one with underwater capabilities, you can see in my photos it has a snorkel to get air to the engine, and also the exhaust was above the Truck. Literally the Driver could drown before the Truck would stall. I had no idea some of the possibilities of what these vehicles could do. I used to sleep on the floor in the back of one of these trucks on my way to the White Sands Proving grounds from Fort Bliss Texas to practice tracking aircraft and learn aircraft identification in my training as a RedEye Gunner. I hadn’t seen one of these trucks in 50 years!
You are probably wondering what was my Favorite. It was either the ’39 Willys or the ’69 Biscayne 427!
Until next time stay safe.
