Here we describe six very rare cars and if you happen to own any of these cars, then we envy you. Some of these cars are, today, worth a fortune, others, maybe more than a fortune.
These six rare cars were produced worldwide, each of the rare cars is from a different country.
1954 Oldsmobile F-88
In 1954 the F-88 was a Motorama “Dream Car” and was one of only two complete – with an unconfirmed possible two ‘shells’ – ever created. So, two were built, one of which has disappeared, although some suggest it met its end in a fire. We can only imagine how high the premium must have been to keep it insured. I would think a car that rare would have needed to have been kept in a museum to reduce risks, like the surviving one that is safely displayed in the Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum. There is no car quite as mysterious, elusive, and sought-after as the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88, which is why we love it!
XY Falcon Wagon
Another favorite, this time from Australia, the XY Falcon Wagon. Only one was manufactured, making it the rarest car in Australia. It is a white, 1950s-styled, eight-seat family car with six doors, that recently went to auction for $1 million dollars. The XY-series wagon was custom-made with a long wheelbase in 1970 to ferry airline passengers.
Rare cars don’t all fall into the same insurance category as you can see by the way that this car insurance comparison website from Australia defines classic, veteran, and vintage cars differently. So make sure you know what category your rare car falls into so you can be correctly covered. If you are lucky enough to own a rare car, insurance should be top of your mind.
Morris Ital
The Morris Ital, an absolute gem of a car, was a British-built vehicle seldom seen on the roads, with very few remaining. The Ital was first launched on 1 July 1980. It took its name from Giorgetto Giugiaro’s ItalDesign studio. At the time of construction, only 175,276 were built. It is a sleek, awesome, product of the 1980s – one any car fanatic will want to have in his collection.
Porsche 911 Rothmans
The Porsche 911 Rothmans, a rally car, is the rarest ever built in Germany. The Porsche 953 was a heavily modified variant of the 911, designed and built specifically to compete in the 1984 Paris–Dakar Rally. Three of them were entered into the Paris-Dakar Rally, one taking overall first place. It features a roll cage, stripped-down rally interior, and lifted suspension. The number that survives to this day is unknown, but it is fair to say, this is a very cool car, and if you’re lucky enough to own one, all we can say is wow.
Nissan Skyline GTR Nismo Z-Tune
The Nissan Skyline GTR Nismo Z-Tune may be the rarest car to come out of Japan. Typical R34 Skylines are seldom seen anymore and have huge collectors value – the Z-Tune, however, tops the cake. It is extremely rare, only nineteen were made, each one is now worth a lot.
Helica de Leyat
The 1921 Helica de Leyat may be worth over $20 million dollars. It was a car made by French manufacturer Marcel Leyat, and only thirty were ever made. Its design is unlike any other car.
A car powered by a propeller is rare indeed and for good reason.
