Porsche 911 Carrera Type 993

by Mike –

The Porsche 911 Type 993 was a new design more than just an evolution from previous 911 designs. It, like other Porsches, is a car for the driver. There is nothing that is not necessary, look at the interior pictures below, simple, functional and fun.

The 993 is the last of the air cooled engine Porsche 911s. This 1996 Carrera has a 3.6 liter engine and a manual 6-speed transaxle producing 282 hp. It will accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.3 seconds.

It looks great from any angle.

The trunk is smaller than my 1967 911 (which I no longer own) because of the airbags, so the golf clubs go in the back behind the driver instead of the trunk. A good trade off in my book.

This interior light looks exactly the same as those on my 1967 911.

A root wood gear shift knob, a rare option and one of the few luxury items. Well, there are also the sunroof and the electric adjustable seats.

The 911 door design has rarely changed.

A wonderful engine but Porsche does not put effort into how the engine looks, only how it performs.

I bought this Porsche new in 1996. It had 11 miles on the odometer when I picked it up in Palo Alto, California. It now has just over 50,000 miles, a threshold I passed last week.

This is a classic car that still gets attention from people on the street even though there were more than 50,000 made, of all versions. This is not a car that will appreciate in value because so many were made but it is a car that can be enjoyed and admired. And if taken care of properly it may not go down in value.

My 911 is Polar Silver Metallic with black interior and leather seats. I love this car.

These 993’s are really climbing in value! Everything you said is spot on. Own a 1997 993 Cabriolet. A Daily Driver, and I love !
