Recently I visited California Classic’s in Burlingame, California where Charley Potts is performing a complete restoration on Iso Grifo chassis number 009. Yes, it is the ninth Grifo made.
It is now in the paint shop and I spent some time with the owners as they were deciding what exterior color and interior color to use. I brought along my Iso color sample kit.
This special Grifo is owned by Sandro Lee and Eleanor Lee. Previous posts on this Iso Grifo are here, here and here. The owners have made a decision on the color scheme and I hope we get to see it at The Quail, A Motor Sport Gathering in August.
Notice there are no air vents in the gas filler cover as there are on Grifos that followed No. 009 (or maybe 010).
Neither is there a air vent on the top of the left rear fender as on all Grifos that followed No. 009 (or maybe 010).
Below is a correct Corvette engine with a correct intake manifold tumbled to look like new.
The correct Corvette valve covers will be given the same treatment as the intake manifold and will look new when done.
The difficult to make dashboard wood is ready and to me it looks excellent.
This is a high quality copy of the original build sheet for Grifo No. 009. If you read Italian it is interesting reading.
Wow, nice pictures. Charley is doing a great job on his restoration. It’s inspiring!
……WONDERING WHY ‘ISO’, et al DECIDED TO USE THE ‘GRIFO'(GRIFFEN) AS ITS’ LOGO??? JK
I am not sure why the Griffon was chosen but I like it.
