A Big Difference In The Experience Of Driving An Iso Grifo And A Bizzarrini GT 5300 – But What Great Fun There Is In Both!

by Mike –

Their is a difference in the experience of driving an Iso Grifo and a Bizzarrini GT 5300. The Bizzarrini requires more attention from the driver and the Grifo is more driver friendly. They are both amazingly fast and fun as you will see in the two videos below.

The Bizzarrini is so low that the driver must pay attention to other drivers on the road who can look over the top of the Bizzarrini because they are not accustomed to seeing a 43 inch high roof line. And ones rear end is only a very few inches off the ground as expected in a race car.

The Iso Grifo on the other hand has a higher profile and the driver and passenger both sit much higher off the ground. Both cars do not have any of the modern driving aids so the driver is much more involved in the driving process than in a modern car.

My Grifo has a factory air conditioner and no Bizzarrini GT 5300 came equipped as such.

Different horses for different courses

If I am going for a drive with my wife then the Grifo is the choice but if I am going out alone, or with a car buddy then it could be either but the Bizzarrini brings up the adrenaline level slightly higher.

If you are wondering why I did not use the GoPro camera on the outside of the Bizzarrini like I did in the Grifo video it is because I was concerned about what the suction cup holder could do to the thin aluminum Bizzarrini body. The Grifo body is steel except for the hood, which is aluminum, and I did not mount the camera on the Grifo hood either.

Driving The Iso Grifo – Video

This coming Sunday a friend and I will take the Grifo up Highway 101 North to the Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance – not to display just to drive. I suspect it will be the only Grifo in the parking lot.

In four weeks the same friend and I will drive the Bizzarrini up Highway 280 North to the Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance where the Bizzarrini will be on the field for all to see. I can’t forget the last time the Bizzarrini attended this event in 2011 it was awarded the Owner’s Choice Award.

If you are there stop by and see the Bizzarrini and me.

  1. Love this post and the videos. The driving position in the Bizzarrini looks VERY familiar!
