Today Is USA Independence Day

In the US we are starting to emerge from more than one year of the coronavirus pandemic shut down. It feels good to be able to start living a more normal life again. I hope you are all able to do the same and can feel like you have your independence back, or will have soon. I know this is not the case for all countries but I believe it will be. For now I hope you are all safe and healthy.

Today is the Fourth of July – Independence Day for the USA – on this day in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Thomas Jefferson had a way with words and the basic ideas presented in the Declaration of Independence are still very important today – not the part about grievances against the King of Great Britain – but this sentence below,

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

 
 

Despite the necessity of a revolutionary war and the British burning down the White House in 1812 – all is forgiven. After all the USA and the UK do share the roots of a common language.
