For Sale – A Monster Ferrari 410 Sport Prototype First Raced by Carroll Shelby

by Mike –

As the Ferrari factory’s 5.0 liter weapon of choice for the 1955 World Sportscar Championship, Ferrari 410 Sport s/n 0592CM represents the ultimate evolution of the big-horsepower and big-torque Lampredi V12’s.

Ferrari 410 Sport Prototype

One of only four 410 Sport examples originally developed and built for the grueling Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico – and first raced by Carroll Shelby – it will be offered by Rick Cole Auctions at their upcoming Monterey sale.

The car is a unique, purpose-built and stunningly aggressive 1950’s sports racing Ferrari and is being offered publicly for the first time in its 59-year history.

This sounds like a good reason to visit the Marriott in downtown Monterey this August. Read more here.

  1. David Grant says

    Mike,

The paint scheme, or livery colors tell me this was a Tony Parravano owned Ferrari when it was campaigned back in the day. Is this the case? If so, the Tony Parravano would be a great story to tell on your website, if it has not already been featured.

  2. The story of 0592CM makes for a good read on our website and indeed was purchased new and campaigned by Parravano. We have the original Bill of Sale from Ferrari showing the sale to Tony P.

  3. What a beast !

  4. David Grant says

    Mike,

This is perhaps one of the most beautiful Ferrari sport race cars, with massive history of all time. Mr. Parravano had some of the most significant automobiles of the 1950’s in his stable, including a 300SL “Alloy” Gull Wing. In late 1979, I was working for a well known metal shop in Southern California called, what else, California Metal Shaping. At this facility was a very colorful employee name Bob Sorrell. At the time of Mr. Parravano’s disappearance in the 1950’s, Bob had in his possession a Parravano owned Ferrari 121 LM. At the time of my employment at California Metal Shaping, Bob still had the 121 LM. Like the 410, the 121 LM had the same paint scheme. Whoever becomes the next steward of this fabulous Ferrari 410 Sport Prototype, will have purchased it for a bargain, because next year, and the years after, it will be worth that much more. You can read more about Tony Parravano and his cars in “American Sports Car Racing in the 1950’s”, written by Michael T. Lynch, William Edgar and Ron Parravano, Foreward by Carroll Shelby.

    Mike,

I meant to say that Tony Parravano disappeared in 1960, not the 1950’s.

  6. David,

Disappeared like Jimmy Hoffa or DB Cooper?

    • David Grant says

      Mike,

Exactly. When you receive your copy of “American Sports Car Racing In The 1950’s”, you can read more information about Tony Parravano’s disappearance from his son Ron.

  7. Yes, David there is another Mike here. You can tell me by my Avatar photo on the right is really me.
