Moderately interesting…

On seeing the Mustang Mach E in person in Malibu, I was pleasantly surprised to see it had curves. Not as curvy as the Mustang two door coupe but certainly better than I remembered it at the LA Auto Show.
Here’s my take on the design:
SIDE It has some sculptural fender lines similar to some Mazda SUVs.
REAR The taillights are white lenses instead of the usual red but the lack of any chrome surround (instead, only black plastic) makes them look cheap. They would have been better off arranging for Mustang taillights. I like the angle of the back window and the built in “shade” for the window.
FRONT Lack of a grille is off putting. They have the Mustang horse but the horse surface seems odd like first they planned to have it plain and then somebody came up with scarring the surface to make it interesting. Why not the same sculptural one used on the Mustang?
INTERIOR Looked dead boring and cheap. The view screen seemed minimum in size compared to a Tesla.
Overall from a distance it appears to be a nice family car. When you consider it has a list price of $65,000 that seems high but it’s still lower than the Tesla Model Xs $79,990 and that’s for the base version Model X, add more if you want the Long Range 4dr SUV AWD w/Prod.
The Tesla Model X can be bought in a version that goes 341 to 371 mi battery-only. The Mustang Mach E’s range if you buy the extended-range rear-wheel-drive version is 300 miles, but the entry-level Mach-E receives a range rating of 210 miles.
IN SUM I am glad to see Ford working in a different direction than the F150 truck or Bronco. This is one for America’s electric car future, which could be brighter if businesses have charging stations so employees can charge their cars at work and students can charge their cars in college parking lots.
In other words, the infrastructure isn’t there yet for even 10% of the cars to be electric. Right now it’s below 4% for pure electrics.
But it’s a start…

Guessing thats Matt Farah’s (The Smoking Tire podcast) test car. He says he loves the car , but was frustrated trying to get in the car for a fast trip to the hospital with his dying cat. The app on his phone was slow to work.
