Concept Car And One-Off-Prototype For Sale

by Mike –

How would you like to own a very special car like no other in existence? The opportunity to buy a concept car or a one-off prototype comes along only occasionally.

Below are a couple of interesting examples available now. One is a concept car that did not lead to a production model and the other is a true prototype for a sports car that did go successfully into production.

Either way what luxury for a car collector to own something that no one else has or could have.

Pontiac Banshee XP-833 Concept Car

The 1964 Pontiac Banshee XP-833 Concept Car is up for auction at the Dragone Auction on Saturday May 30, 2015 in Greenwich, Connecticut.

The estimate is $600,000 – $650,000.

Dragone Auction says,

The Banshee was the brainchild of Pontiac’s Advanced Engineering staff when a request was made to Pontiac Motor Division Head John Delorean to allow them to build a two-seater sports car. Delorean approved the idea in late 1963 and the XP-833 two-seat sports car was under way. Contrary to popular belief, the design inspiration for the XP-833 was strongly influenced by the rear-engine Corvair Monza GT show car of 1963 and not Larry Shinoda’s 1965 Mako Shark II Corvette show car.

In the present day Banshee number one remains a concept car that was built as a prototype design that runs as good as it looks and is still in outstanding all original condition.

AMC AMX Fiberglass Prototype

The only AMX fiberglass prototype to survive is for sale here on My Car Quest.

The price is $400,000.

AMC AMX Prototype

The car for sale here is the only AMC AMX fiberglass prototype to survive and it has a fascinating history. As happens many times with cars the human element has made a big difference – if not for an AMC car lover (Domenick Jiardine, Jr.), who was also an AMC employee, and a sympathetic AMC executive (William Luneburg, president & COO of AMC) this car would have been burned with the other fiberglass AMX prototype and thus would not exist today.
