What a find in Nebraska – 500 old classic cars and trucks; many of them “new” and unsold from Lambrecht Chevrolet Co. in Pierce, Nebraska from the 1950s and 1960s. They will be auctioned off in September.
The auction will feature mostly unsold Chevrolets that have been sitting either inside or outside. About fifty of these new old stock cars and trucks have fewer than twenty miles on the odometer.
I guess Ray Lambrecht, the owner of Lambrecht Chevrolet, didn’t believe in the standard end of the year clearance sale to make room for next years models. He just kept the unsold cars and trucks and stored them, sort of.
But why did he let them sit for so long? And some sat outside where the Nebraska elements got to them. I didn’t know it was possible for a new car to reach a dealer with only 1.3 miles on the odometer!
What I want to know is how does this happen? How did the small town in Nebraska keep this a secret for so long?
This would make a great episode of “Twilight Zone”. We need Rod Serling or Ray Bradbury to write the script and explain this. I nominate William Shatner for the role of Ray Lambrecht.
“People are strange” as Jim Morrison wrote. And “Give me a ticket for an airplane” as the Boxtops sang. Now I am showing my age.
