This is a unique opportunity for anyone who appreciates the history, beauty and performance of this gorgeous mid-engine design and wants a special car that most people have never seen in person.
Considered by most American Motors fans to be the best AMC design of all time, a third-generation AMX concept car, the AMX/3, debuted at the 1970 Chicago Auto Show. The first AMC/3 prototype was a fiberglass body without an engine. American Motors placed an order for 30 cars and the AMX/3 body mold was sent to Giotto Bizzarrini who then performed his special form of automotive magic to build the “best handling car I have ever built” as Giotto Bizzarrini told the current owner.
The Bizzarrini prototypes used the AMC 390 cid V8 and an Italian OTO Melara four-speed transaxle. Road testing was done by BMW, which declared the AMX/3’s chassis one of the stiffest and most neutral handling they had tested.
Five completed cars were produced before AMC cancelled the program. The remaining extra parts were used to assemble a sixth car.
The opportunity to acquire an AMC AMX/3 by Bizzarrini may not come along again.
