by Mike –
At the North American International Auto Show today Ford announced a new Ford GT supercar which will be available in 2016.
There is no mention of the price nor how many Ford plans to make. Note the V6 engine producing more than 600 hp! This should be one fast car – no doubt the fastest street car every made by Ford.
The big question is – will this be a collector car right out of the gate like a Ferrari Enzo or will the new owners have to wait a few years for their new purchase to be worth more than they paid like the last Ford GT?

From the Ford press release,
Ford today unveiled the all-new GT, an ultra-high-performance supercar that serves as a technology showcase for top EcoBoost® performance, aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction.
Beginning production late next year, the GT hits the road in select global markets to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford GT race cars placing 1-2-3 at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The all-new GT supercar features rear-wheel drive, a mid-mounted engine, and a sleek, aerodynamic, two-door coupe body shell. It is propelled by the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever – a next-generation twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing more than 600 horsepower.
The GT makes extensive use of lightweight materials, including carbon fiber and aluminum – enabling outstanding acceleration and handling with improved efficiency.
While it shares a legacy with classic Ford racing and performance cars, GT is a fully contemporary and functional shape that communicates modernity and pure beauty.
An F1-style steering wheel integrates all necessary driver controls, creating a stalkless steering column that allows uncluttered access to the transmission paddle-shift controls. A fully digital and configurable instrument cluster provides a wealth of driver-focused data. The display is configurable for multiple driving environments and different driving modes.

It looks a little convoluted in the side view like the 4C Alfa. I like the back most as an effective update of the original GT40. I hope this time they put luggage room in it, the old one had no trunk. I look forward to hearing about it being developed further–I’d like to see a made-in-USA competitor to Ferrari, and also to see an open version like the aborted GTX (an outside supplier developed a targa for the ’05-’06 Ford GT but apparently few were completed.

Looking good ,but a V6 into a super car????
Why ??
I think the engine name, EcoBoost, provides a clue as to why it is a 6-cylinder with turbo boost.
I hope it wents not into the same way as the Jaquar XJ220
Lovely design ,but also a V6
Not really happy with the design – looks like every other current super car out there, at least in pictures – scoops, scallops and angles
V6 for 600 HP ?? Possible…. but would it be a hand grenade? It’s not like Ford has a lot of turbo experience unlike Porsche or Mercedes. Also noted the Eco boost has been plagued with problems.
The font end look like every other modern super car.
Hi Mike, I am unable to open the attached video of the new GT6 as the site message says it is “unconfigered” can you do anything? I also agree with George 20 on the design as it appears “bitsy”! Ciaran.
Sorry about the video – maybe you don’t have the right software on your computer. This video is on the Ford site – click on the Ford press release and see if you can play it there.
Needs 2 color layout to accent lines ( Not big stripes).
