Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Cancelled For 2020

Due to Ongoing COVID-19 Concerns

by Mike Gulett –

It is not a surprise that the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has been canceled for 2020 but it is still a big disappointment.

Two other events have also been canceled: Legends Of The Autobahn® and the Carmel Mission Classic. I suspect we will hear many more cancellation announcements soon.

This Pebble Beach announcement essentially cancels Monterey Car Week for this year.

Below is some good news for car owners who were accepted to display their cars this year at Pebble Beach. I know “good news” may be an over statement. I am sorry but there is no good news for attendees.

From the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance press release:

The car selection process for the 70th Pebble Beach Concours, which was scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2020, was recently completed, and entrants were notified of their acceptance earlier this month. The acceptance letters stressed that these cars were invited to appear at the 70th celebration—even if it was delayed. With the cancellation of this year’s event, the 70th Pebble Beach Concours will now take place on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

Features will remain as planned, with a display of past Best of Show winners along the edge of Stillwater Cove, and special classes focusing on Pininfarina coachwork, Porsche 917, Talbot-Lago Grand Sport, Miller racing, Iso, Early Electrics and the Carrera Panamericana.

All tickets purchased to date for the 70th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be valid for the event on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Ticket purchasers who cannot attend the 70th Concours on its new 2021 date can request a refund by emailing info@pebblebeachconcours.net.

Be safe everyone.

  1. I bet this indeed means the whole of Monterey Car Week will not happen..

Very unfortunate but considering the circumstances I think they did the right thing.

  2. Hotel rooms will now be affordable and parking available. I suspect an underground group of enthusiasts will show up, Similar to the early years. Enthusiasts driving their cars to Monterey and enjoying the weekend.

  3. More Monterey Car Week cancelations:

    * Gooding and Co. has canceled its Pebble Beach auction, originally scheduled for August 14-15.

    * The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, announced that they would suspend their event, scheduled for August 14, and their rally, scheduled for the two days prior.

    * Bonhams announced that they will schedule an alternate auction in California to replace the Quail Lodge auction.

    * Concorso Italiano canceled, originally scheduled for August 15

    * McCall’s Motorworks Revival postponed this event, originally scheduled for August 12.

    * Worldwide Auctioneers has postponed its Pacific Grove Auction to 2021.

    * Concours d’Lemons has been canceled.

    • Yet still no announcement by Laguna Seca. Business as usual ?

      • I have not heard anything about the Laguna Seca historic races. There are a couple of events scheduled at Laguna Seca in July.

Laguna Seca is owned by Monterey County so they will have no choice if either the California governor or the Monterey County health director decide to not allow gatherings this large in August.
