Saturday of Monterey Car Week is the day for Concorso Italiano but because I recently posted Concorso Italiano Revisited – 2014 I thought I would post some photos of Cars on the Street, which is something I try to do every year.
Since I live in the Carmel area I drove around today (Friday) looking for cool cars. I was not disappointed but between my driving, the tourists and trying to take photos I missed many of the good photos. It is very hot here on the Monterey Peninsula – well above normal; it was 89 degrees F in Carmel-by-the-Sea at about 1:30PM.
Many of the locals who live here full time are not unhappy about the cancellation of Monterey Car Week because it always brings lots of excess traffic and crowds this one week of the year. These people who actually prefer no car week do not own restaurants or hotels in the area so it does not impact them financially. And they are not car lovers! Go figure. Many of them usually leave town during Monterey Car Week but not this year.
I missed a photo of Porsche 550 Spyder (probably a replica) and a ’58 or ’59 Corvette. I also missed taking a photo of a McLaren followed by a late model Ford GT, both in a color similar to candy apple red. Guess what? They were going too fast for me to photo while I was driving in the opposite direction.
Oh well, there is always next year.
