Happy New Year – 2022

by Mike Gulett –

One year ago on this day I wrote, “This past year 2020 has been a dark year for most of us. The new year 2021 looks to be a brighter year, eventually.”

Did I get this wrong? Maybe and maybe not … yes the coronavirus is still with us and setting records for new infections in the US (mostly among the unvaccinated). However, the medical experts have made great progress delivering vaccines that really work! And they are widely available. If we all get vaccinated then everyone will be healthier and happier and we will have a better year in 2022.

My thanks to all who have contributed to My Car Quest by either providing content or comments and I am especially thankful to Wallace Wyss for his many contributions.

My best wishes and Happy New Year to you all.

New Year’s Day: now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual . . . New Year’s is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls, and humbug resolutions. — Mark Twain

  3. “setting records for new infections in the US (mostly among the unvaccinated)” 97% of the new cases are people that have had the vaccine. Check your facts and maybe stick to what you know, publishing a car. We have enough propaganda and lies being spewed by he media and politicians. We don’t need to hear it from the place we are trying to escape to – Mycarquest.

    • Hey Bruce, where are you getting your facts?

      From the CDC:

*Unvaccinated people are about 29 times more likely to be hospitalized with Covid-19 than those who are fully vaccinated, according to a CDC study released Tuesday.

*The new study also found that unvaccinated people were nearly five times more likely to be infected with Covid than vaccinated people.

*The data is in line with comments from federal and state health officials, who have been saying for weeks that millions of unvaccinated Americans have been putting themselves at serious risk.

Getting Covid is not so much a problem in the vaccinated and boosted, it’s the unvaccinated that are requiring hospitalization. Perhaps the unvaccinated, maskless, freedom lovers should take responsibility for their own decisions and seek help at “Freedom Hospitals” staffed by the unvaccinated.

  4. Bruce,

You should not get your medical advice from Tucker Carlson or anyone on Fox News. Try these sources:

    The CDC – https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7037e1.htm

Getting vaccinated protects against severe illness from COVID-19, including the Delta variant.

The Los Angeles Times – https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-01-01/younger-adults-driving-covid-transmission-in-southern-california

Still, the huge increases in new coronavirus cases have health officials worried that hospitals — especially in areas with low vaccination rates — may be slammed by a crush of patients if transmission remains this high and the virus is able to find a large number of unvaccinated people. Those who have not received a single shot remain at highest risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
