I thought the first Rolls Royce custom boat tail, built for a special client, was a bit too fancy by far but, Egad, man, they’ve done it again and this time it’s even more over the top!
But the pictures shot at the Villa d’Este concours are so good, just have to show it and it’s become a tad fancier so there’s a chance by the time they get to the tenth one, they will have something us ordinary chaps would fancy.
I still think splitting the rear deck into two hatches merely to more quickly access the cutlery for the picnic is a bit needless. They’ve done the wooden rear deck over a bit. Now it’s swathed (their word, not mine) in Royal Walnut veneer, and inlaid with rose gold-plated pinstripes with a satin-brushed finish. Royal Walnut was selected because, as it matures over time, it gradually transforms to a cognac colour.
And though I know the top goes down, not sure how, since it seems to be a hardtop within a soft top. The explanation with this latest one is that it’s a carbon fiber fixed canopy so I gather your minions lift it off so it can use the skimpy cloth top.
So basically I’m showing it in case you win say, the lottery, and have 50 million to spend maybe you can order the next gen….and see if you can do something about that speed limiter when you’re at full chat in top cog–150 mph is simply beneath its potential…
This one was ordered by somebody in the pearl trade hence everything that isn’t rose gold is pearl in some way. (If they just put the name of their business on it, it’d be a write-off, right, mate?)

A friend of mine has a boat tail, although I have not seen this new one I am not sure which I prefer.
