One fun thing I like to do during Monterey Car Week is to drive around and look at the cars being driven or parked on the streets. These drivers with their cars create their own car show especially in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea.
This year I noticed that most of these cars are modern super cars rather than older classics. Is this a real trend?
The sound of these modern super cars is quite different than an older classic and I must admit I like the sound of the older classic better. The older ones seem to be more throaty where the modern cars are higher pitched, at least to my ears.
These photos were all taken over a one hour period and I was not able to get a photo of most of the cool cars I saw because I was driving. I saw more McLarens than any other make followed by Ferrari.
For some reason it took two cops to give a ticket to a BMW driver as you can see in one photo in the slide show.
No matter the make or model it is fun to see people driving cool cars on the street and having safe fun.
Hi
Missed you at the event.
This was my first Monterey what a blast!
Taking the supercar to the car show seems like a worldwide phenomenon.
Why not? It’s a very special brand of one- upmanship which I admire.
Here is one we saw: La Ferrari Aperta Ontario plates.
Always fun to see the great cars on the Monterey Peninsula, and as you say, Carmel in particular. Hoping that the Concours on the Avenue comes back next year. Even without it, the cars that line Ocean Avenue each day are impressive. Definitely agree that it is great to see the classics on the road, though I imagine that as they can be less user friendly than a modern supercar, is the reason more of them are at car week.
Every time I go I feel like I’m in a fantasy land with all the sweet cars.
