They call themselves “the crown jewel in a whirlwind of events” and I have to say that they have much to offer, because not only is their event set in a lush setting on a golf course surrounded by the Santa Lucia mountains but they also have exceptional cuisine and wine included in the price of an entry ticket ($650 per person).
This is in a sense a “curated show” in that not everyone that enters is accepted. If you see a Porsche 356, it will be among the best you have seen and so forth.
Plus each of the sponsoring automakers has a display that is car show quality (and you wonder why some pulled out of the LA Auto show, because this is where their customers are).
Some even have nice couches to sit on while you enjoy a free beverage and watch the hoopla. There are even sponsors taking advantage of the excellent demographics of the show-goers by providing cream-of-the-crop luxury cars to be sampled by guests on local roads.
One of the premium auction companies, Bonhams will be having their 22nd Motorcar Auction on the western end of the property with shuttles over to it so you can check out the latest prices of the most collectible cars.
Here are the classes for the 2019 show:
· Post-War Sports
· Post-War Racing
· Supercars
· The Great Ferraris
· Custom Coachwork
· Sports and Racing Motorcycles
In addition to classes there are also featured themes chosen each year and for 2019 they are:
· 100 Years of Bentley Motors
· 25th Anniversary of the McLaren F1
· A Tribute to the Electric Car Movement
It may be possible to enter your car in the show (the deadline was May 31 but who knows?). To do that, go to this website.
My Car Quest publisher, Mike Gulett, attended The Quail last year with his Lamborghini Espada (above), and in 2012 with both his Bizzarrini GT 5300 (below) and his red Iso Grifo (bottom). The Bizzarrini won the Bizzarrini class, which is the only Bizzarrini class held so far at The Quail.
The Quail is always a good time if you can get tickets.
