The Frankfurt International Auto Show 2015

by Don Meluzio –

My son Derek and I planned a car guy trip through Germany with the main purpose being the Frankfurt Show and The Porsche Museum. This report is on the Frankfurt Show. If you ever get the opportunity to go, it is a must see. You can’t even imagine the size of the show, it is enormous.

We tackled it in two days, and still missed out on a few brands. Audi had what looked to be a temporary building that was the size of most ice hockey arenas! The line to get in was about a 10 minute wait. The people were clamoring to see their beloved Audis.

My favorite car of the whole show was the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo. It was outrageous and I thought beautiful, and going by the crowd, I was not alone in my opinion. I posted one photo, because I couldn’t get close enough to get an unobstructed view. I would suggest Google “Bugatti at Frankfurt Auto Show” to see the great photos.

I thought a close second (and I’m not a Ford guy) was the Ford GT. Talk about some wild body shape, and leading edge aerodynamics. Look at those air vents just behind the doors. That is very innovative and I thought appears to be leading edge industry wide..

Next was the Porsche Mission E. The concept is the first Porsche with four doors and electric drive. In my mind it is a very good looking car, and I would think that if Porsche does produce it, it would be direct competition with the Tesla. Porsches production cars do, over the years, very much resemble their prototypes, if this would be the case with the Mission-E I would think it would be a great four seater, combined with efficiency.

The Halcon Supersport Falcarto is produced in Frankfurt Germany, it uses what appears to be their own engine design. It is a 3.7 Liter Twin Turbo Front/Mid engine. They are calling it a Super Car and it seems at this point production will be 15 cars!

It is very attractive, although I thought a little busy. It features an infinitely adjustable suspension, with an automatic lowering system. It is quite an endeavor to take on the Big Boys, but it appears to be comparable to some of the cars on the market. Only thing is I didn’t get a price.

I really love Race Cars, and the Sin R1 appears to be a neat Race Car, and they already produce street car. It is a Bulgarian Company, with production in the U.K. It is a fairly new company and has already been racing in Europe.

The word is that they will be racing in the USA (I believe the car has yet to be homologated) in the World Challenge next year with Racers Edge Motorsports. I think it is a carbon fiber tub, and it is Corvette powered. My details are minimal so I would go to Sins Cars UK web site to get the real scoop. If looks transfer into speed, this car will be bad ass!

I had heard of airbag systems for motorcycles but had never seen one before. It actually seems to be very protective of your upper body. They actually had a guy put it on and then they set it off. It is pretty instant and scared the heck out of the wearer and me! Motorcycle riders in Europe are very serious about their riding, and you must realize that they cruise at ungodly speeds. I would think there is a place for this item in Germany and the rest of Europe for that matter.
