The AMX/3 Really Is A Bizzarrini

by Mike –

The AMX/3 is just as much a Bizzarrini as any of the models that bear the Bizzarrini badge. The way the AMX/3 was created is very similar to how the Bizzarrini GT 5300 was created.

The AMX/3 development was funded by American Motors, styled by Richard Teague of AMC and is powered by an AMC engine. It is branded AMC.

AMX/3 by Bizzarrini

The Bizzarrini GT 5300 was funded by Iso, styled by Giugiaro of Bertone and is powered by Chevrolet as were other Isos at the time. Initially it was branded an Iso and changed to the Bizzarrini brand later when Giotto Bizzarrini and Renzo Rivolta, owner of Iso, decide to part ways.

Both the Bizzarrini GT 5300 and the AMX/3 chassis design and engineering were done by Giotto Bizzarrini. The AMX/3 bodies were built by Diomante and initially the GT 5300 bodies were built by Drogo.

The AMX/3 could have been branded a Bizzarrini if the business relationship would have developed to allow this.

There is a very good article on the Hemmings blog recently about the AMX/3 by Bizzarrini and the comments show how unknown this super car is. It is a shame because Giotto Bizzarrini told Walter Kirtland, the current owner of the AMX/3 by Bizzarrini, that the AMX/3 was the best handling car he ever made.

Now that is a strong statement from the creator of the Ferrari 250 GTO, the Ferrari Breadvan, the Bizzarrini GT 5300 and the Bizzarrini P538.

This special super car, the AMX/3 by Bizzarrini is for sale here on My Car Quest. Where else are you going to see an AMX/3 for sale?
