Porsche 356 Zagato Carrera Speedster

by Mike –

There is a rare Porsche for sale on Bring a Trailer, where they write, “This is the sixth of nine Carrera Speedsters built by Zagato in 2015 and 2016 using Porsche 356 donor cars.”

Wallace Wyss wrote here on My Car Quest about the original,

Zagato Carrozzeria is one of the most legendary Italian carrozzerias. Almost every larger sports car they did, such as the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, and the Zagato 250GT for Ferrari is today a much valued car but even the small cars they did on Alfa-Romeo and Lancia chassis were groundbreaking in their time.

But little has been mentioned of Zagato’s open Porsche. Everyone knows of the 20 (some say 21) Zagato coupe Carrera Abarths but few have heard of the one off 550 Spyder, which was destroyed in the accident that killed Claude Storez at Highways 58 North on the Reims circuit.

I visited Zagato in Milano in April 2013 where I reviewed the Zagato presentation, in the slide show below, about the Porsche Speedster Zagato Sanction II.

This is the history of this car straight from Zagato.

  1. Sort of a poor mans 550 spyder, very similar in lines to the early Glockler roadster. I think Zagato did a better job on the coupes it later built for Porsche.

  2. Look at the fins on this 1957 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Coupe by Scaglietti they are similar to the Porsche 356 Zagato.

Was this the style for a few minutes in the late ’50s?

  3. SKIP HINOJOS says

    I’VE ALWAYS LIKED ANYTHING, ZAGATO.
