Malibu Car Show Redux

This time there were two Malibu Car Shows…

As a brush fire sent a five mile column of smoke skyward 40 miles East of Los Angeles, up in Malibu the car people came again, enjoying the 75 degree F weather while inland it’s all bake and shake (oh, mild earthquake too…).

This time there seemed to be more surfers at Malibu beach though the waves were lackluster. The informal cars & coffee show at Cross Creek Village had about the same number of cars–let’s say 50–but a lot more spectators.

One of the most interesting was a Pagani, a competitor to Ferrari and Lamborghini made by a bloke who once was a body supplier to them. His cars are considerably more glitzy inside than Ferrari or Lamborghini.

There was a fly yellow Ferrari 275 GTB being driven by Bruce Meyer, of the Petersen Museum, and a genuine 1966 or so Lamborghini Miura.

Up the highway a good ten miles was another event which shall remain nameless (how else ya gonna be exclusive) and many of the rarer cars were there. That event is right on the beach and considerably more photogenic but couldn’t take any more people–maybe 30 cars fills it up. So, we’ll just tell you what you missed.

Aston Martins seemed more out and about than ever before, so I have to congratulate them having good market penetration–getting to be “the car to own” once again giving Ferrari a run for their money.

We were all looking for a five story mystery yacht with helicopter rumored to be up the Coast but that ship had departed–too bad because Malibu doesn’t have a place to dock so it doesn’t have many ship visits. It’s just another thing that makes Malibu a place to visit, the cars, the outdoor cafe and the glimpse of A Better Life offshore.

And so it is–despite the pandemic, despite millions of jobs lost, Malibu’s car shows continue.

Hallelujah!
